12/06/2024

Vietnam is committed to reducing emissions by promoting technologies with low or zero global warming potential and implementing sustainable cooling solutions, aiming to cut 11.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2045. This initiative is part of a national plan for managing and eliminating ozone-depleting substances (ODS), aligned with the Montreal Protocol, and signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

Key points of the plan include:

Effectively managing and phasing out ODS like CFCs, HCFCs, halons, and others.

Ceasing the use and import of specific harmful substances by 2040.

Reducing HFC consumption by 80% by 2045.

Ensuring controlled substances are properly handled, recycled, and integrated into carbon credit mechanisms.

The plan also emphasizes integrating sustainable cooling solutions into urban development and climate action plans. To achieve these goals, Vietnam will build supportive policies, enhance human resources, promote scientific research, develop new technologies, and strengthen international cooperation.
