The Wide-Open Future of Online Exports

28/08/2024

Cross-border e-commerce, or online export, is rapidly growing in Vietnam, generating nearly $4 billion in revenue and is expected to reach $13 billion in the next three years. Revenue from online exports has been increasing rapidly thanks to the support of platforms like Amazon, Shopee, and Alibaba, which help businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), easily access international markets.

These platforms provide comprehensive support programs covering store management, import-export handling, marketing, sales, and operations. This has led to a significant increase in the number of Vietnamese businesses participating in online exports. For example, the number of Vietnamese businesses earning $1 million annually on Amazon has increased tenfold over the past five years.

Vietnam has significant advantages in developing cross-border e-commerce due to its strong export economy, with products such as textiles, footwear, rice, and agricultural products. Domestic manufacturers are encouraged to focus on green and sustainable consumption to better compete in the international market.

A representative from the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that, in the next five years, the government will increase support for SMEs and manufacturers to more effectively engage in online exports. The strategy also aims to enhance Vietnam's e-commerce capabilities to improve the competitiveness of "Made in Vietnam" products in the global market.
